ABOUT RISK

Why do people do dangerous risky things? Why do we insert ourselves into dangerous risky environments? We at Flow AK have no idea what your response to this question will be. But for some people this is an essential part of living. We are those people. We have ways to minimize, mitigate and lessen the risk of going on a whitewater adventure. We take pride in providing a safe fun adventure, but no guide service can ensure the complete safety of their clients, especially in the world of fast flowing rivers. You must take some risks with us if you would like to join us in this adventure.

WHAT CAN HAPPEN
OUT THERE

Risk is something that is inherent in daily living, in adventure sports and in recreating in the wilds of Alaska.  People often ask if ‘risk’ is the same thing as ‘danger.’  In our minds risk has to do with the probability that being exposed to a hazard will have a negative or undesired consequence.  You need to know that there are hazards associated with these activities and that sometimes those hazards result in the consequences of injury and/or in the extreme case of death.

We take pride in providing a safe fun adventure but no guide service can ensure the complete safety of their clients, especially in the world of fast flowing rivers.  You must take some risks with us if you would like to join us in this adventure.

HOW WE MITIGATE
RISK

Information: We strive to provide you with adequate information to allow you to make appropriate decisions during your time with us.  Every trip starts with a safety orientation.  Lead by one of our experienced guides this safety orientation will discuss techniques and strategies to minimize your risk while you are on the river with us.   We will perform a practice swim before entering any true whitewater that is designed to help our guests learn about what it’s like to swim in moving water and to better understand what is expected of them.

Technology:  We provide the latest in outdoor gear for our river trips.  Solid equipment helps you be more comfortable and it is one of the critical ways to minimize the risks of being safe out there.  We have up to date communications equipment and safety gear in case of an emergencies.

Experience:  The 3 founders of Flow AK have over 20 years of river guiding experience each.  That’s 60+ years of river running behind our business!  We use this experience to build a better trip each time.
